Linda Blair We have a daughter named Rebecca with Down’s Syndrome and deafness and we wanted to get her a new dog. We called around and our vet recommended California K-9 Academy. We met with Howie and he was very enthusiastic. In two weeks they adapted the learning style to someone who learns a little slower. Our trainer, Yaiza, has been wonderful working with Rebecca and her dog, Muchie, in breaking the situation into small steps in order for her to learn. She had a really strong background in behavior modification and Rebecca is becoming good at working with the dog. The verbal style of working with the dog has also been adapted to use sign language and a clicker. It has made Rebecca feel really good about the dog. Yaiza and Howie have been wonderful and willing to take time to work with us and Rebecca’s slower learning schedule. It’s been a wonderful experience for all of us. I felt she was treated as an individual, paying close attention to her needs, but no different than they would treat others. They really adapted the training and I believe that anyone can be successful with their help. I’m just really thrilled with what’s happened with Munchie and our daughter. They really taught my whole family what it takes to appreciate the dog-owning experience rather than it being a burden. We have a yellow lab and a mix (we adopted him and are his 4th owners). It’s really amazing how far he has come. It’s hard work but really pays off. I would never have been able to take a beautiful walk in the country with my dogs two months ago and it’s fun to see the dogs enjoy the experience too. There’s no way to put a price on what you get…it’s really worth it. I also sent a friend to California K-9 who hated dogs and she fell in love with a puppy and it has changed her life too.  Six months into my marriage, my wife and I were attacked by an East L.A. gang. When my wife threatened to move out with or without me, I called California K-9 Academy. Howard Rodriguez provided us with two personal protection dogs. They have given my wife the security that she required and love and companionship that we never expected. Carl & Adrienne Short When we brought our Mastiff, Gigger, to you, you took possession of the enormous task of training her. Gigger was a "blank sheet of paper" when your training team took her in. The goal was take Gigger and train her into a house dog. The major question at this point was, is it possible to take a 130 lb. dog and make a house dog? California K-9 Academy welcomed the challenge. Any questions we had subsided as we watched Gigger transform before our eyes. K-9 proved through discipline and dedication that they are qualified to train any dog no matter the circumstances. More importantly, the training of Gigger was performed with the dog's best interest in mind. I want to thank you for the love and care in which you trained Gigger. This has allowed the family and Gigger to interact on a more gratifying level. I was introduced to Howie and California K-9 Academy under extremely difficult conditions. Doing animal rescue you can find yourself handling aggressive dogs. Howie came forward without question or judgement and helped me to understand, to work and apply his years of expertise to the situation. I will be forever in his debt.
